"...so why do I need to throw all of you into detention? Because you haven't been paying enough attention to the fact that our nation's culture is not only created in our schools but that it is our children who are leading the development of that culture in our schools adult authority is long gone. So here I am ringing the alarm. In 20 years many of us will be retired or sadly dead, and the children in our schools will be in important and influential positions in our institutions. As G.K Chesterton said the true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him but because he loves what is behind him. Well, I'm asking how much do you love your country, how much do you love the values that you claim to defend? Do you love them enough to tweet under your own name do you love them enough to change your child's school to one that's less woke and ignore the impact on your social status? Do you love them enough to do more than simply chat to your friends who already agree with you at dinner parties. For Heaven's sake man, stand up and be counted! As Russell Crowe says in the film Gladiator (a clip I regularly play for my staff): 'Hold the line! Stay with me!... what we do in life... echoes in eternity. Will your life echo hollow with cowardly hypocrisy or will it echo with courage, valiance and honour? The choice is yours strength and honour be with you all!' Now get yourselves to detention!"

But the people really go wild on one thing only: not Black Lives Matter, not woke history, but the madness of the trans stuff. It's something people can really feel angry about, but how widely is this sentiment shared? Last summer, an Opinium poll of Tory members found trans issues were 26th on their list of priorities.
I've heard little so far on crime, nothing on the cost of living, nothing on health at NatCon. We're dealing in abstractions here." https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/why-are-the-nat-cons-so-serious/

"I think um technology is this incredible alternative to politics and uh and you know there are a number of different technologies we can outline but the the task in this world where politics has become so broken and so dysfunctional is to find a way to escape from it it's not a way to fix it is a way to escape and uh there are you know a number of different options I think the uh the promising one of the 1990s and this last decade has been to escape onto the Internet and to sort of create an alternate virtual reality uh questions of course is still how does it intersect with the real world there are I think escaping to outer space um is a promise uh although I think the space technology is not quite there so I think that's sort of for the second half of the 21st century I think we can try to uh you know create autonomous countries on oceans underwater all sorts of other spaces but I think technology is the vehicle for how we should um we should be looking to uh to escape and move beyond uh beyond politics as we find it today um I want to uh offer two quick thought two basic thoughts and then open it a little bit of discussion and debate on um the limits of this so I sort of one thought on um a caveat to this technology as an alternative and then end with the caveat to the caveat so the big caveat to uh technology as a standalone autonomous force is that politics is going to try to stop it and I think we should not underestimate the degree to which there is a race in our society between politics and technology and it's an very open question whether technology is going to succeed on its own in escaping from the black hole of politics or whether uh somehow the system will collapse in on itself and I think you know I think actually the correct in a sense attitude... #NewspaperUKBrdshtTheGuardianMarkOConnell "If you're interested in the end of the world, you would have been interested, soon after Donald Trump's election as US president, to read a New York Times headline stating that Peter Thiel, the billionaire venture capitalist who co-founded PayPal and was an early investor in Facebook, considered New Zealand to be 'the Future'. Because if you are in any serious way concerned about the future, you're also concerned about Thiel, a canary in capitalism's coal mine...
...he didn't like how they wrote about him; he is known for his public musings about the incompatibility of freedom and democracy, and for expressing interest - as though enthusiastically pursuing the clunkiest possible metaphor for capitalism at its most vampiric - in a therapy involving transfusions of blood from young people as a potential means of reversing the ageing process. But in another, deeper sense, he is pure symbol: less a person than a shell company for a diversified portfolio of anxieties about the future, a human emblem of the moral vortex at the centre of the market.
And the overwhelming suspicion was that he was looking for a rampart to which he could retreat in the event of outright civilisational collapse.
Because this is the role that New Zealand now plays in our unfurling cultural fever dream: an island haven amid a rising tide of apocalyptic unease." https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/feb/15/why-silicon-valley-billionaires-are-prepping-for-the-apocalypse-in-new-zealand

#CampaignStrategySouthernStrategy[Wikipedia]Context #MagazineHarpersBazaar "Our cultural institutions are facing a moment of trial. Powerful protests for racial and social justice are leading to overdue demands for police reform, along with wider calls for greater equality and inclusion across our society, not least in higher education, journalism, philanthropy, and the arts. But this needed reckoning has also intensified a new set of moral attitudes and political commitments that tend to weaken our norms of open debate and toleration of differences in favor of ideological conformity. As we applaud the first development, we also raise our voices against the second. The forces of illiberalism are gaining strength throughout the world and have a powerful ally in Donald Trump, who represents a real threat to democracy. But resistance must not be allowed to harden into its own brand of dogma or coercion--which right-wing demagogues are already exploiting. The democratic inclusion we want can be achieved only if we speak out against the intolerant climate that has set in on all sides.
The free exchange of information and ideas, the lifeblood of a liberal society, is daily becoming more constricted. While we have come to expect this on the radical right, censoriousness is also spreading more widely in our culture: an intolerance of opposing views, a vogue for public shaming and ostracism, and the tendency to dissolve complex policy issues in a blinding moral certainty. We uphold the value of robust and even caustic counter-speech from all quarters. But it is now all too common to hear calls for swift and severe retribution in response to perceived transgressions of speech and thought. More troubling still, institutional leaders, in a spirit of panicked damage control, are delivering hasty and disproportionate punishments instead of considered reforms. Editors are fired for running controversial pieces; books are withdrawn for alleged inauthenticity; journalists are barred from writing on certain topics; professors are investigated for quoting works of literature in class; a researcher is fired for circulating a peer-reviewed academic study; and the heads of organizations are ousted for what are sometimes just clumsy mistakes. Whatever the arguments around each particular incident, the result has been to steadily narrow the boundaries of what can be said without the threat of reprisal. We are already paying the price in greater risk aversion among writers, artists, and journalists who fear for their livelihoods if they depart from the consensus, or even lack sufficient zeal in agreement.
This stifling atmosphere will ultimately harm the most vital causes of our time. The restriction of debate, whether by a repressive government or an intolerant society, invariably hurts those who lack power and makes everyone less capable of democratic participation. The way to defeat bad ideas is by exposure, argument, and persuasion, not by trying to silence or wish them away. We refuse any false choice between justice and freedom, which cannot exist without each other. As writers we need a culture that leaves us room for experimentation, risk taking, and even mistakes. We need to preserve the possibility of good-faith disagreement without dire professional consequences. If we won't defend the very thing on which our work depends, we shouldn't expect the public or the state to defend it for us" (7 July #2020_).
https://harpers.org/a-letter-on-justice-and-open-debate/Supplementary #EDUUSUniversityOfCaliforniaUCLABerkeleyJohnPowell "These strategies, combined called the 'Southern Strategy', was designed to create a national Republican majority, built, in part, on white resentment.
The dog whistle worked because it was heard and understood by the conservative white base, yet not by more moderate and northern whites. It meant activating racial resentment for one part of the population while denying that fact to the rest. The Southern Strategy married the conservative politics antipathy to marginal tax rates and civil rights, labor, and environmental regulations of corporate elites with culturally conservative antipathy towards civil rights, women's rights, and gay rights." https://belonging.berkeley.edu/new-southern-strategy
