Why is my boss looking so weird today? What does my neighbor's innuendo mean about my new car? Is the waitress flirting with me or is she just being friendly? Our 'social' brain also checks facts from time to time. However, the question that is much more important to it is: what are the social consequences if I do or say this or that? So we have a mechanism in our heads that, when in doubt, even tells us prevents us from thinking what is right when in return it endangers our social status. "THE LARGEST MASS SHOOTING IN US HISTORY DID NOT HAPPEN IN LAS VEGAS.
It happened December 29, 1890 when 297 Sioux Indians were slaughtered at Wounded Knee Creek on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. They were murdered by federal agents and members of the 7th Cavalry who had come to confiscate their firearms 'for their own safety and protection'. The slaughter began after the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms. The Calvary began shotting [sic], and managed to wipe out the entire camp. 200 of the 297 victims were women and children.
Wounded Knee was among the first federally-backed gun confiscation attempts in the United States."
