@NicoleShealer [name pseudonymized] [ontology] : Race hustling grifter, Don Lemon, wrecked on his way out from dying prime time TV in @CNN [URL redacted] #CRT #woke #Reparations

Context #NewspaperUKBrdshtTheIndependentGraemeMassie [Muckrack] "Lemon started the conversation by telling his guest that 'you have those who are asking for reparations for colonialism, and they're wondering, you know, '$100bn, $24bn here and there, $500m there.' 'Some people want to be paid back and members of the public are wondering, 'Why are we suffering when you are, you have all this vast wealth?' Those are legitimate concerns.' But his guest said that it was in fact the Africans who needed to pay the families of '2,000 naval men' who she claimed died trying to prevent slavery. 'Well, I think you're right about reparations in terms of - if people want it though, what they need to do is, you always need to go back to the beginning of the supply chain. Where was the beginning of the supply chain?' she asked. 'That was in Africa. Across the entire world, when slavery was taking place, which was the first nation in the world that abolished slavery?' before telling him that it was 'the British.'" https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/donald-trump-jr-fordwich-slave-trade-reparations-b2171510.html

Supplementary #NewspaperUKBrdshtTheGuardianRobertBaird "Of course, it's important not to overstate the case: the evolution of the idea of whiteness was messy and often indistinct. As the historian Nell Irvin Painter has cautioned, 'white identity didn't just spring to life full-blown and unchanging'. It had important antecedents that included a growing sense of a pan-European identity; longstanding cultural associations that saw white as a symbol of purity and virtue; and bog-standard ethnocentrism. Still, with only slightly exaggerated precision, we can say that one of the most crucial developments in 'the discovery of personal whiteness' took place during the second half of the 17th century, on the peripheries of the still-young British empire. What's more, historians such as Oscar and Mary Handlin, Edmund Morgan and Edward Rugemer have largely confirmed Du Bois's suspicion that while xenophobia appears to be fairly universal among human groupings, the invention of a white racial identity was motivated from the start by a need to justify the enslavement of Africans. In the words of Eric Williams, a historian who later became the first prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago, 'slavery was not born of racism: rather, racism was the consequence of slavery'." https://www.theguardian.com/news/2021/apr/20/the-invention-of-whiteness-long-history-dangerous-idea #WebsiteStuffWhitePeopleLikeSWPL [Wikipedia] #MetaphorPeriodization17thCentury #PhenomnWhiteness #IRLAuthorTaNehisiCoates #IRLSociologistWilliamEdwardBurghardtDuBois #IRLHistorianNellIrvinPainter #ToponymEmpireBritish #IRLHistorianOscarHandlin #IRLHistorianMaryFlugHandlin #IRLHistorianEdmundMorgan #EDUUSYaleUniversityEdwardRugemer #OtheringHateXenophobia #PowerControlChattelSlavery #IRLHistorianEricWilliams [Wikipedia] #ToponymCaribbeanTrinidadAndTobago

@ChristinHalbrooks [name pseudonymized] [ontology] [17]: In a preposterous and highly offensive remark, Professor Kehinde Andrews recently claimed that the British Empire was worse than the Third Reich. He also made a further fool of himself (see photo below). @kehinde_andrews #woke #wokeness #PoliticalCorrectness #academics [URL redacted]
"His actual words were: The British Empire was far worse than the Nazis. They lasted longer and killed many more people. The trouble for this 'professor' is that, grammatically speaking, 'they' (being plural) has to refer to a plural noun and the only one in the first sentence is 'Nazis', So, what he actually said, as opposed to what he meant to say, was that the Nazis killed 'many more people' (than those killed during the course of the Empire). And I'd agree with that. If a white professor had made this wild claim against a non-white country, the politically correct hate-mob on Twitter, and other woke warriors, would probably have denounced it as racist. Stirring up hate & making basic mistakes in English. Not doing too well, 'Professor'." #ToponymEmpireBritish #PoliticallyCorrectPC #OtheringOutGroupGangMob #TauntWokeWarrior

Addendum this argument functions as a #ReasoningFallacyStrawman through skirting the central claim of the argument (about the realities of The British Empire) and instead seeking to criticise the grammatical correctness of Andrews' point. The mention of 'professor' in the response is logically an attack on Andrews' status (as a senior, university academic i.e. #OtheringElitesLiberalCulturalEducated) or perhaps more generally an attack on the status of #EDUUKBirminghamCityUniversityBCU where he is Professor of #LiteralFieldBlackStudies) or perhaps in a more coded way, through being #BehaviourCondescending i.e. seeking to diminish him as covert #OtheringDiscriminationRacism. Regardless, it's difficult to get past the fact the comment reads like simple #CharacterisationPedantry
