Addendum presumably, "Turned it off for first time ever" describes the response the tweeter had to seeing the television broadcast of the London NYE 2020-21 NYE fireworks celebrations i.e. that they 'turned their television off' upon seeing the broadcast. Additionally, mention of "first time ever" infers that they habitually watch the celebrations on television (and not in-person) - either because they live in London but prefer to watch it on TV or that they don't live in London and it's feasible for them to commute in for the event.
