We appropriate them into our sense of self and begin to have concern for them. The Stoics' ethical application of this insight is that we should increase the extent of our Oikeiôsis. The aim is to reduce, as far as is practicable, the gap between the concern that we show for 'self' and the concern that we show for the various categories of 'other'.
