The British Air Force has forced itself to hire 40 percent women and blacks, thereby leaving very good pilots on the ground whose only fault was being male and white. It was not a member of the Ku Klux Klan who denounced it, but a woman, an Air Force officer, worried about the deterioration of the quality of her unit. Is it right to discriminate against a person based on their sex and skin color, perpetuating a consolidated pattern, even if the sexes and colors are reversed? No, it is not right. But it could prove to be wise, if in the next fifty years we really want to achieve the strategic objective of an advanced society: equality of starting points.
The white male has enjoyed favorable conditions for millennia that make him even more prepared to occupy certain roles. However, if he continues to occupy them alone, the excluded will never be able to get to his level. As in all things, gradualism and common sense are needed, but to achieve justice tomorrow, it is probably necessary to commit an injustice today.
