@ShaniquaSchiff [name pseudonymized] [ontology] [04]: @GregAbbott_TX Why is "#woke" ESG policy bad? Don't banks have a right to consider pollution/social costs? You, far-right #txlege, feral #GOP agitators, #MAGARepublicans, #ClimateScam believers & #GOPTraitorsToDemocracy ignore reality. Woke entities don't. #ClimateCrisis & #inclusion matter. #MagazineUSRollingStoneAntoniaJuhasz "This is life in 'Cancer Alley,' an 85-mile stretch along the banks of the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, where industry leaders like ExxonMobil, Koch, and Shell operate about 150 fossil fuel and petrochemical facilities. Seven of the 10 census tracts with the highest cancer risk in the nation are found here. The exceptionally elevated toxic air emissions released by the industry are linked to a host of ailments, from cancer to cardiovascular and respiratory disease to reproductive and developmental disorders. And in St. James, toxic facilities are increasingly concentrated in areas with the highest percentage of black and poor residents." https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/louisiana-cancer-alley-getting-more-toxic-905534/ #ToponymAmericaNorthUSLouisianaStJamesParish #BrandExxonMobil #BrandKochIndustries #BrandRoyalDutchShellPlc #PhenomnEnergyFuelFossil #PhenomnEnergyFuelFossilPetrochemicals #ConditionCancer #LiteralSubstanceGasToxicAirEmissions #ConditionDiseaseCardiovascular #ConditionDisorderReproductive #ConditionDisorderDevelopmental #ToponymAmericaNorthUSMississippiRiverCancerAlley https://dabrownstein.com/2013/12/04/mapping-the-cancer-corridor-along-louisianas-gulf-coast/
#WebsiteVisionProjectLesStone "In Louisiana, stretching 80 miles from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, there lays one of the most polluted areas of the United States. Because of the dense cluster of oil refineries, petro-chemical plants and other chemical industries, this area is known as Cancer Alley. Designated as an enterprise zone, loose oversight has enabled industry to release into the environment extremely toxic materials. Recent studies have found that the entire population of this region has been exposed to thousands of toxic chemicals and very little is being done to clean up the mess. Cancer and respiratory problems are widespread. Greenpeace has labeled Cancer Alley a Global Toxic Hotspot." [pdf]

Context "But not everyone in Confederate territory would immediately be free. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later. Freedom finally came on June 19, #1865_, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as 'Juneteenth,' by the newly freed people in Texas." https://nmaahc.si.edu/explore/stories/historical-legacy-juneteenth
