Addendum converse to the intended negative trend, the figures are shown as becoming progressively taller from left-to-right. Presumably this isn't meant to have symbolic purpose and in only used as a way of foregrounding the directionality of the trend i.e. that the negative trend is becoming more pronounced/overt.
