On the surface, the comparison between the two groups/answers appears impartial however, there two things operating here, which are conveniently overlooked: 1). the groups are self-selecting and therefore not representative. 2). the tenor of the questioning of the white/first group is about compassion and fairness - when the same questions/answers are retold to black respondents - the points are framed as a challenge and seeming criticism (provoking a defensive response).
