comparison made between Barack Obama and Trump's greeting Japanese emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko upon arrival at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo - Obama bowing in 2009

and Trump with a handshake and nod in 2017
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-trump-asia-japan-emperor/trump-greets-japanese-emperor-with-a-handshake-and-nod-but-no-bow-idUSKBN1D60CG
While the first gesture assumes mutual respect (through being gracious) the second symbolically positions both within a world-view framed in terms of business (and fails to recognise the symbolic importance/grandeur of the Japanese emperor). Selective photographic evidence of Obama and Trump's interaction with military personnel. There appears to be an important subtext to these images. Whereas the first shows a white soldier holding an umbrella for Obama i.e. African American (which he does so as an act of duty/service) the second shows a white president (Trump) dignifying an African American soldier through replacing a soldier's hat (logically interpreted as an act of humility).
