#woke [URL redacted]
"ChatGPT must be decolonized because the data was selected by 'white men from the USA'. Is @BarbaraBleisch aware that without the technology of 'white men from the USA' their show could not be recorded, edited or broadcast? woke" #TechArtificialIntelligenceAIGenerativeChatBotChatGPT #PhenomnColonialismDe
Addendum this tweet assumes that the engineering and operation of such technology is the sole purview of 'white men from the USA' i.e. #PoliticsNationalismAmerican. In doing so, it misunderstands (or ignores) #IRLScholarBarbaraBleisch's central thesis about algorithmic AI bias. As this Lexalytics article explains it: "There are two types of bias in AI. One is algorithmic AI bias or 'data bias,' where algorithms are trained using biased data. The other kind of bias in AI is societal AI bias. That's where our assumptions and norms as a society cause us to have blind spots or certain expectations in our thinking. Societal bias significantly influences algorithmic AI bias" [blog] Significantly, the idea that technology is not neutral / has a bias represents a cultural understanding of technology i.e. because AI is a cultural product, it necessarily #TheoryOfAffordances.ords bias. This perspective sits in contrast with the tweet's #TheoryInstrumentalism perspective, which imagines that technology is able to be removed from its socio-cultural context (and therefore, avoid bias). Additionally, the response's #TheoryAffectiveResponseAnxiety points to #TheoryVictimhoodWhiteThymos
